Thought Pieces

The SAI would like to help sociology to provide a constructive response to the current crisis. It is an incredibly interesting time to be a sociologist, and we would like to facilitate our membership to make a positive response to these challenging times, to help illuminate the lessons we can draw from it, the possibilities that it opens up, and in sum, give a sociological reading of the extraordinary times we are living through:
  • We would like to solicit thought pieces on the pandemic, with either an Irish or a global focus. These can be either 750 words or 1500 words in length. They can be sent to sociology.ie@gmail.com, and will be reviewed by a sub-committee. Four 1500 word long pieces will be selected for inclusion in the Debates Section of the next issue of the Irish Journal of Sociology. The other reviewed pieces will be posted on our Blog on our website, which we will will also Tweet a link to in order to make the material available to our 1,800 followers on Twitter. We would like to follow up with a selection of authors for interviews, which we will include in a special episode of the SAI Podcast, ‘Irish Society’. We will set the period in which we will accept these thought pieces from now until May 15th, to provide us with some focus in this endeavour.
