Postgraduate Conference

SAI Postgraduate Conference 2009

The Annual SAI Postgraduate Conference took place on Saturday, Nov 7th, 2009 at NUI Maynooth.  Around 50 people registered for the conference.

The day opened with a challenging keynote address by Professor Sean O Riain, "Society as a Constitutive Force: Unlocking Sociology’s Potential (Through the lens of the economic crisis)".  The keynote was followed by a number of morning and afternoon parallel sessions at which  29 postgraduate students from around Ireland presented papers on their work.  Dr. Pauline Conroy ended the day with an upbeat and inspiring talk on the opportunities for Social Science postgraduates in the years ahead.  Proceedings were rounded off with a convivial glass of wine.

The SAI would like to express its appreciation to the local organising committee at NUIM for all of their work in preparing and running the conference:  Emma Barnes, Eoin Flaherty, Mary Phipps, Chris Lowe and Kerry Gallagher.
